Frequently Asked Questions
COVID-19 Update
The COVID-19 virus is affecting us all and at Southport Physiotherapy we have changed the way we deliver our service accordingly, by implementing 'social distancing' requirements.
In the rooms:
We can organise timing of arrival so as to limit exposure to others in waiting and treatment areas. Patients will be taken into the individual treatment area ASAP to avoid contact with others.
If preferred - patients can wait in their car in the carpark and can be called for their appointment.
We have PPE to increase barrier protection.
We sanitise common areas regularly and treatment beds are addressed after each patient.
Home Visits:
We do home visits in the local area (including patients on EPC referrals).
Do I need a referral?
If you are a private patient you do not need a referral.
DVA: We require a D904 DVA referral form from your Doctor.
WorkCover: If you are under WorkCover we ask that you bring with you your claim number and current Medical Certificate from your Doctor, this lets us know the dates in which you are covered for treatment.
CTP Insurance: If you have been injured in a motor vehicle accident (MVA) and are covered by Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance we ask that you bring in your Doctor’s referral. It is also beneficial to have the claim number and third party insurance details.
Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) Program: If your Doctor has placed you on the EPC Program you will be eligible for a certain number of visits (limit of 5). Your Doctor will either fax the EPC form to us or give you a copy to bring with you to your appointment. We also require you to bring your Medicare Card.
Do I need to make an appointment?
Yes, we request that you call in advance to make an appointment. If however you urgently need to be seen we will do our best to book you in as soon as possible.
What do I need to bring?
We recommend wearing comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely. For knee injuries it is advisable to wear shorts. If you have any x-rays or medical certificates which are relevant it's always helpful to bring those with you also.
How often do I need to come to Physio?
After your first treatment with one of our Physiotherapists, they will advise how often they think you should be attending.
Do all Private Health Funds cover Physio?
You must have the Extras Cover for Physiotherapy.
How do I claim with my health fund?
We have the Hicaps system in the rooms. When you are finalising your account we can electronically use your private health card and claim the rebate. You will only be required to pay the gap amount.
How long will the treatment go for?
Generally our treatments are between 30mins to 45mins. The first session may take a little longer. We recommend arriving 5-10 minutes early for your first appointment to allow time to fill out any paperwork.
Where can I park?
We have free parking for patients on-site. The entrance is off High Street. You need to come northbound on High Street to access the carpark.
Please see our Location and Directions page for further information.
